Dall Sheep Hunting Season
Alaska’s dall sheep hunt generally runs the first few weeks of August. The days are warm and the nights are cool. Many consider this to be the best time to visit this part of Alaska.
Dall Sheep Hunting Base
All dall sheep hunts are based out of Northway, Alaska. You’ll take a flight from your location to Anchorage and than an Alaska Airlines flight from Anchorage to Fairbanks. You’ll rent a car in Fairbanks and drive 250 miles to Northway where our staff will meet you and help get your gear to our base as we prepare for your hunt in the Wrangell Mountains. Our exclusive guide area lies within the boundaries of the Wrangell St. Elias National Park and Preserve.
The area we will hunt has a base elevation of 3,000 feet with the tops of the mountains ranging from 6,000 to 8,500 feet. Spruce forest grows in the lower elevations giving way to alder and willow brush and then on to the high alpine pastures where the dall sheep thrive. This area boasts one of the highest populations of dall sheep per square mile in Alaska.
The weather around the Wrangell Mountains can vary greatly. We do not fly if there is any chance we may be putting anyone at risk.
Guided Dall Sheep Hunts Include
We take care of all the equipment you and your guide will need. You’ll have excellent tents, cooking gear, food and access to the finest dall sheep hunting in the world. Your professional guide will ensure your enjoyment of the topography and help you find and stalk the trophy dall sheep you’ve been dreaming of. The guide will help with cooking, meat care and cape/horn care.
Guided Dall Sheep Hunts Do Not Include
Guided hunts do not include your Alaska hunting license or dall sheep hunting tags. Your guide will quarter your meat according to Alaska Department of Fish & Game requirements (meat must be left on the bone) and handle your cape until we pick you up. Your guide will be able to help quite a bit and ensure you follow ADF&G requirements. Once you return to Fairbanks, we can suggest a location where you can further process and package your own meat and ship it to your home. We can also suggest taxidermists or guide you on proper shipment of your cape and horns back home. Northern Air Trophy is not responsible for your dall sheep meat or your dall sheep cape and horns. We can only offer verbal assistance so that you can understand the options available and make choices based on your budget. Make sure to allow extra time when you return to Fairbanks so that you can properly handle your dall sheep meat and trophy prior to making your way for home.
